France and Germany Talked About EU Reforms

The economy ministers of France and Germany had a meeting this weekend in order to talk about the plans for the EU reforms prior the expected summit within this month. On Sunday, French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire stated that the "significant progress" was driven during the eurozone reforms negotiations in Paris along with Olaf Scholz. Reportedly, Le Maire and Scholz gathered in a hotel room for almost 14 hours to finalize the details.


According to the spokesperson of German finance ministry, the talks will last for a few more days as the leaders aim to unite France and Germany on EU reform. While French President Emmanuel Macron appointed the European Union to have their budget and minister. Nevertheless, German Chancellor Angela Merkel showed regard highly about the complaints of German voters towards major countries of not leaving indebted governments in poor countries.


Moreover, the projected amount of EU budget is another issue between the two biggest economy in EU. As Merkel proposed a “lower end of the double-digit billions of euros range", while Macron proffered budget to be  "several points of the eurozone's GDP". Hence, both economy ministers will submit their respective proposals to the joint Franco-German ministerial meeting scheduled this week before the summit on June 29.
