The German Ministry of Economy announced that Germany has agreed with Qatar on long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

This agreement will allow Germany to reduce its dependence on Russian gas imports, whose share in annual supplies now exceeds 50%. The ministry also noted that the volume of purchases and their conditions will be discussed individually by German companies.

At the same time, Germany notes that Russian gas is still necessary and necessary this year, but in the future the country hopes to completely abandon Russian raw materials.

The Qatari authorities welcome Germany's decision to accelerate the construction of two LNG terminals, and intend to start discussing the terms of long-term contracts for the supply of LNG in the near future.

European leaders are planning to hold another meeting in Brussels on Thursday, where they will discuss the possibility of taking measures in response to the rise in oil and gas prices due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Germany does not intend to extend the service life of nuclear power plants, the closure of which is scheduled for the end of 2022, and is pinning hopes on LNG terminals, hoping to limit gas imports to Russia.
