The United States eases export restrictions: a step towards China

The United States has temporarily lifted restrictions on technology exports to China in order not to interfere with trade negotiations and to support President Donald Trump's plans to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The U.S. Department of Commerce has advised its Bureau of Industry and Security to refrain from tightening export controls against China in order to avoid aggravating relations.

Representatives of the two countries have scheduled a meeting in Stockholm to discuss economic issues that remain the cause of the trade conflict between the world's largest economies. Meanwhile, Nvidia announced the resumption of exports of H20 GPUs to China, lifting a ban imposed in April by the Trump administration. Previously, the restrictions were explained by the need to prevent the supply of chips for artificial intelligence for reasons of national security.

The move was part of negotiations on rare earths and magnets, as announced by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik. However, 20 security experts, including former Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger, expressed concern in a letter to Lutnik, pointing out the potential risks of such a decision.
