The German government adheres to the position that the Nord Stream gas pipeline will remain inactive. This statement was made by the representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Steffen Mayer. According to him, Berlin's point of view regarding this project remains unchanged, and there are no plans to launch the pipeline. Earlier it was reported that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed support for possible new EU sanctions measures against the Nord Stream project. According to sources, a ban on the restoration of gas pipelines at the EU level could permanently close discussions on this topic in German political circles. The sanctions being discussed by the EU may be directed against both the pipeline operator and other organizations capable of taking over management or carrying out restoration work.
