In Germany, there was a significant increase in the number of bankruptcy filings in July 2025. According to Destatis, their number increased by 19.2% compared to July last year, which was the largest jump since October 2024, when the increase was 22.9%. These data are not yet final statistics, as they are based on current statements. Official statistics for May 2025 show an increase in bankruptcies among companies by 5.3% compared to May 2024, which amounted to 2,036 cases. The largest number of failures were registered in the transport and warehouse logistics, construction and hotel business. The number of personal bankruptcies has also increased. In May 2025, 6,605 cases were registered, which is 16.1% more than a year earlier. The economic crisis continues to put pressure on businesses. As noted by Jupp Zentzen from the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the two-year recession has worsened the liquidity of many companies. The situation is also aggravated by high energy costs, which leads to a further increase in the number of bankruptcies.
