The European Union and the United States signed a joint declaration on energy cooperation, confirming the agreements reached earlier by US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. According to a document published on August 21, the EU intends to purchase $750 billion worth of energy resources from the United States by 2028. The declaration emphasizes that the parties will work to ensure «safe, reliable and diversified energy supplies», including through the removal of non-tariff barriers restricting trade. The purchases will include LNG, oil, and nuclear energy products. Earlier, the European Commission noted that the $750 billion amount also includes supplies of nuclear reactors and investments in the nuclear sector, and the volume of imports will depend on the needs of the European energy market.
