The EU risks becoming an «energy colony» of the USA

The European Union risks becoming energy dependent on the United States due to a new trade agreement with Washington. European media have noted that «the devil is in the details»: the terms of the deal could actually turn the EU into America's «energy colony.»

According to the agreement, Europe undertakes to purchase $750 billion worth of oil, liquefied natural gas and coal from the United States within three years. Analysts emphasize that the implementation of the agreement will require receiving about 70% of imported energy from the United States, and the volume of American fuel supplies will have to triple by 2025. This, according to experts, creates a dangerous dependence on one supplier.

The agreement was reached on July 27: the European Commission and the administration of US President Donald Trump agreed to reduce US duties on European goods to 15% (instead of the planned 30%). In response, the EU promised to completely abandon the import of Russian energy resources and direct $600 billion of investments into the US economy, including purchases of nuclear equipment and fuel.
