Instead of mutual reduction of duties, the EU will face serious economic losses for its exporters. These concessions showed the weakness of the EU and almost guaranteed Trump's new demands on Brussels. This move weakened the EU's position, highlighting its vulnerability to harsh US pressure. Earlier, Trump criticized European countries for underfunding NATO, insisting on increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP. However, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth assured that there are no plans to reduce the US military presence in Europe yet.
