The EU insists on urgent tariff reductions in key sectors as part of a trade agreement with the United States. Brussels is expressing concerns about a possible imbalance in the future agreement with Washington. These negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of the approaching deadline for postponing the introduction of retaliatory tariffs initiated by Donald Trump on July 9. The White House emphasizes that the issue of extension remains at the discretion of the president.

The European Commission, which represents the interests of the EU, is ready to put forward a number of demands, including reducing 10% tariffs on alcohol and medical equipment and concluding deals in the aviation, pharmaceutical and semiconductor sectors. The United States has launched investigations in these sectors, but has not yet introduced new tariffs. In addition, the EU is seeking concessions on 25% duties on cars, auto parts, steel and aluminum, considering car taxes to be a matter of principle.

After returning to power, Trump focused his trade criticism on the EU, accusing Europe of unfair trade with the United States. In response, Brussels strongly rejected these statements, promising to actively fight any unjustified restrictions.
