Donald Trump has announced plans to send notifications of new tariff rates to more than 150 countries. He clarified that the letters would specify the amount of duties, which would be the same for everyone, and stressed that these were mainly small states. This week, many countries have already received notifications about the proposed changes, which are due to take effect on August 1, unless better agreements can be reached. Initially, the duties were planned to be introduced on July 9, but the deadline was extended by three weeks, which intensified negotiations between trading partners seeking to avoid tariff increases. Earlier, the Trump administration expressed its readiness to conclude agreements with partners, the president emphasized the importance of the notifications themselves and demonstrated limited interest in negotiations. However, he left an opportunity for the countries to agree to lower the rates. The amount of fees in the letters almost coincides with the April announcements. Nevertheless, the newsletter increased uncertainty in the financial markets and came as a surprise to partners such as the EU, who were counting on preliminary agreements.
