Германия, в лице министра финансов Олафа Шольца, озвучила предложение направить 1 млрд евро ($1,2 млрд) на строительство двух СПГ-терминалов, чтобы предотвратить введение санкций со стороны США в отношении трубопровода «Северный поток-2». Как известно, этот российский проект разработан для поставок газа напрямую из России в Германию. 

В своем официальном письме министру финансов США Стивену Мнучину Шольц пообещал выделить государственные средства на строительство терминалов, если Вашингтон не будет вводить санкции против компаний, участвующих в строительстве газопровода. 

Новые терминалы могут быть построены в двух местах на берегу Северного моря.
