Гендиректор Volvo анонсировал, что с 2020 года заводы компании будут выпускать только гибриды и чистые электромобили.
 
После 2019 года автопроизводитель отказывается от производства автомобилей, работающих только на двигателе внутреннего сгорания. Компания полностью переориентируется на разработку электромобилей и автомобилей-гибридов.
 
Хакан Самуэльсон, генеральный директор Volvo, заявил, что в будущем все автомобили компании будут оснащены электродвигателями. Также автопроизводитель больше не планирует разрабатывать новые модели бензиновых и дизельных двигателей.
 
Ранее Volvo объявила о планах к 2025 году продать 1 млн. электромобилей. Шведская компания принадлежит китайской Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. С 2019 по 2021 год на заводах в Европе, США и Китае Volvo планирует запустить производство 5 новых моделей, 3 из которых будут чистыми электромобилями.
