The European Commission rejected the current version of the joint statement on trade and tariffs proposed by Washington and sent the document back for revision. This was announced by a representative of the European Commission during a press conference, stressing that the negotiation process is ongoing. According to him, work on the document is underway at the political level. European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer are involved in the discussion. The document was prepared by the US administration and sent to Brussels last week for approval. Despite the fact that the parties reached a framework trade agreement with a base tariff of 15% at the end of July, the EU expects additional executive orders from the White House, especially regarding exceptions for the automotive industry.
