OpenAI discusses the sale of shares and expects a valuation of $86 billion

OpenAI, the company that developed the popular chatbot ChatGPT, has started negotiations with investors on the sale of its shares. The company's valuation during this transaction is $86 billion. 

OpenAI is discussing the possibility of providing employees with a tender offer for the sale of shares worth $ 1 billion. However, the actual amount will probably be less due to the desire of employees to keep their shares. 

It is unclear whether the shares will be offered to new investors. To date, OpenAI's investors include Microsoft Corp., venture capital funds Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz and Khosla Ventures. It has already been announced that the investment company Thrive Capital, one of the existing investors of OpenAI, will participate in this transaction. 

It is expected that giving employees the opportunity to earn on their promotions will help OpenAI attract talented software developers and compete with giants such as Google and Amazon.

Recall that in April, during the investment round, OpenAI attracted investments valuing the company at $29 billion. The $86 billion valuation will make OpenAI one of the most expensive private companies in the world. The company's annual revenue from ChatGPT development exceeds $1 billion.
