Philip Lane, chief economist at the European Central Bank (ECB), said that the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19 is the central agenda for the Central Bank and carries downward risks for its economic outlook until the epidemic is brought under control. At the same time, the ECB expects that the end of the epidemic will lead to a significant revival of the eurozone economy, and in the foreseeable future we should not expect «dramatic» consequences. The regulator also noted that the ECB has room to maneuver in terms of increasing monetary stimulus and is ready to lower key interest rates if necessary.
